GENERAL SCIENCE INFORMATION
Science Writing
I only have information for
the UK I'm afraid, but the following sites will hopefully be of some
assistance to anyone with an interest in becoming a science writer.
A good place to start is the website of the Association of British Science
Writers which has a section entitled 'So you want to be a science writer'?
If you
are under the age of 28, you may wish to consider entering the Daily
Telegraph Young
Science Writer of the Year competition. I was a Merit Award winner in
1994 with the first piece I ever wrote, so this helped spur me on!
In addition to looking at these sites, I personally recommend
getting yourself a copy of the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook published by
A & C Black, as this contains a wealth of information. It includes
contact details and rates of pay for many newspapers and magazines and
advice on submitting material to editors.
Scientific
Organisations and Institutions
This list only provides links
to a small selection of scientific organisations and institutions that
have English language sites on the web. Many of these sites contain links
to other related sites. If you can't find what you want here, you could
try visiting ' Interesting www sites about science ' or the
international list at the Scholarly Societies Project site.
